Welcome! The Benjamin Moye Classic Youth Fishing Tournament is an annual event hosted by Sportsmen for Christ. Experienced anglers are paired up with youth from the Mills Home in Thomasville for a fun day of fishing. Thanks to all who participated in the 3rd annual tournament on September 25th, 2010. The tournament was a great success and a blessing to all!

Guest Speaker

Dick Jones & canine friend "Larry" was this year's guest speakers. Dick is a freelance writer living in High Point. Larry is a 2-year-old Fox Red Labrador who hunts as well as doing personal appearances with Dick. Dick writes about hunting, fishing, dogs, and shooting for several N.C. newspapers as well as magazines. He is a good friend to the Sportsmen for Christ ministry. 2010 Tournament Schedule

Friday Night Dinner
September 24th, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Location: Green Street Baptist Church (Fellowship Hall)
Guest Speaker: Dick Jones - Outdoor Writer & Sportsman
Agenda:
All tournament participants are encouraged to attend. Each participant may also bring a guest to the dinner. At registration each Boater, chaparone, & Mills Home youth will be matched up to their assigned teams. Tee-shirts, gifts, tournament rules & instructions will also be handed out. A wonderful meal will be served followed by a message from our guest speaker.

Fishing Tournament
September 25th (Saturday)
Location: Tamarac Marina, High Rock Lake, NC
Agenda:
6:30 am - Tournament meeting to review rules & safety
6:45 am - Hand out snack packs & rod/reels to each team
7:00 am - Blast Off (tournament begins)
1:00 pm - Finish Time (lunch is served & weigh-in begins)
1:45 pm - Awards Ceremony
2:30 pm - Depart

A look at last years Tournament

The weather was perfect on the day of our 2nd annual Fishing Tournament. We all knew it was answered prayer, since earlier in the week it was forecasted to have 70% chance of rain all day. As the teams were called up for check-in, snack packs were handed out and each of the kids were given a brand new rod & reel. You could tell the anticipation was building as the kids looked around and saw over 30 boats ready to take off. At 7:30am we sounded the blast off and the tournament was on. It really was a thrill to be a part of the mass of boats taking off down the river as the sun was just beginning to rise.

As our boat came to rest at a prime fishing spot, we quickly put our lines in the water and were ready to reel in the big catch. We had a great day fishing and I enjoyed getting to know the boater and the young boy on my team. I was able to take advantage of the quiet time and the surrounding beauty on the lake to point out that all we see in nature did not just happen on it's own. It is clear evidence that God really exists and that He created all things. At first the young boy did not say anything in response. I thought he might be just focused on fishing and did not really listen to what I said. We continued to fish, but about 10 minutes later out of the blue he said that he doesn't think the science teachers in school are right about evolution. The theory that we evolved from monkeys did not make sense to him. (...aah he had been listening earlier, I thought to myself...) I took out my camouflage Bible and shared with him Romans 1:20-22. "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile & their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools..." I explained that he must go to the source of truth and turn to the word of God to know what is right or wrong. Also, these verses tell us that God has given us all the proof and evidence we need through his creation to let us know that He is real and that you either choose to believe in God or you reject God.

It was wonderful being out on the lake enjoying God's creation and sharing His word. I really enjoyed getting to know the youth on our team and was excited to think of all the other discussions that were taking place out on the lake in other boats that day. Everyone had a great time fishing that day, but sharing the love of Christ is what this event is all about. I am looking forward to see how God will work in this years tournament.
